Real Time Purpose ®
Introduction
Real Time Purpose® within the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology refers to a specific application or process where participants use the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method to explore, clarify, and articulate their personal or organizational purpose in real time. This process helps individuals or teams to:
Identify Core Values: By building models that represent their core values, participants can visually and tangibly explore what is most important to them or their organization.
Clarify Purpose: Participants use the LEGO bricks to create models that represent their understanding of their personal or organizational purpose, allowing them to see and discuss their purpose from multiple perspectives.
Align Goals and Actions: Once the purpose is clarified, participants can then use the LEGO models to align their goals and actions with their identified purpose, ensuring that their decisions and strategies are purpose-driven.
Engage and Inspire: The process is designed to engage participants deeply and inspire them to think creatively and collaboratively, often leading to new insights and a stronger commitment to their purpose.
In essence, Real Time Purpose within the LSP framework is a powerful tool for uncovering and aligning purpose, whether for individuals or organizations, through a hands-on, creative process.
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is endlessly adaptable. Real Time Purpose® can be modified to meet your individual needs. We have helped our clients facilitate everything from one-hour online sessions to week long comprehensive strategic planning.
Examples of Real Time Purpose® workshops using LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®:
Organizational Purpose Clarification
Objective: Assist an organization in clearly defining its purpose, aligning it with its mission, vision, and values.
Activities: Participants will first build models representing the organization's current perceived purpose. They will then create models that symbolize the ideal future purpose of the organization. The group will discuss the differences between current and future purpose models and work together to develop strategies to bridge the gap. Finally, they will identify specific strategic actions and align them with the refined organizational purpose.
Purpose-Driven Leadership
Objective: Empower leaders to define and align their leadership approach with their personal and organizational purpose.
Activities: Leaders will begin by building LEGO models that represent their personal leadership purpose and values. Next, they will create models showing how their personal purpose aligns or conflicts with the organization's purpose. The session will then focus on developing strategies to better align their leadership with the organizational purpose, with these strategies being represented through LEGO models. Finally, participants will create action plans and commit to specific changes in their leadership approach.
Innovation with Purpose
Objective: Encourage teams to innovate with a clear purpose, ensuring that new ideas align with organizational goals.
Activities: Teams will start by building models that represent their understanding of the organization’s purpose. Participants will then build models of innovative ideas that align with the identified purpose. The group will refine these ideas, ensuring strong alignment with the organizational purpose, using LEGO models for visualization. The session will conclude with teams presenting their purpose-driven innovations and receiving feedback, with a focus on how well these ideas align with the organizational purpose.
Team Purpose Alignment
Objective: Facilitate a team’s discovery and alignment of a shared purpose, enhancing collaboration and cohesion.
Activities: Each team member will begin by building a model of their individual purpose and sharing it with the group. The team will then collaboratively build a model that represents a shared purpose, integrating individual insights. The next step will involve identifying key actions to align the team's work with the shared purpose, with these actions being visualized through LEGO models. The workshop will conclude with a group discussion on how to implement the aligned purpose in daily work and setting actionable goals.
Discovering Personal Purpose
Objective: Help participants uncover and articulate their personal purpose, aligning it with their values and life goals.
Activities: Participants will start by building LEGO models that represent their core values and sharing the meanings behind them. They will then create models symbolizing their perceived life purpose and discuss how these align with their values. The next phase will involve identifying actions they can take to better align their daily lives with their personal purpose, with these actions represented through LEGO models. The workshop will end with a group sharing of insights and reflections, focusing on how the experience can influence future decisions.
